Founded on May 23, 1939.
Main research lines of the Institute are:
- theoretical and experimental studies of the structure, coloration and reactivity of organic compounds;
- fine organic synthesis;
- chemistry of heteroatomic organic compounds;
- supramolecular chemistry of macrocyclic compounds;
- scientific fundamentals for synthesizing compounds with practical properties, including physiologically active compounds, cyanine dyes, organic catalysts and complex-forming agents.
Institute’s researchers have made a major contribution to the world science. Their research into the theory of organic compounds coloration, synthesis and studies of phosphaso-compounds, phosphorus iodide and sulfur&nitrogen-containing compounds has won general recognition in the scientific community. The concept of multi-center cyclic transient states has played a prominent role in forming modern ideas concerning the mechanisms of organic reactions. Fundamental studies have been conducted by Institute’s scientists in the following areas: chemistry of phosphorus, sulfur, fluorine organic compounds; heterocyclic and supramolecular chemistry; chemistry of biologically active substances. Novel preparations for medicine and veterinary have been produced, namely: ‘Ademol’, ‘Bemethyl’, ‘Mebifon’, ‘Diftorant’, ‘Foridon’, ‘Flokaline’, ‘Mielosan’.
The Institute developes science-intensive technologies of synthesizing organic materials for various purposes, including extractants of heavy, non-ferrous and rare metals, spectral and infrachromatic sensibilizers, dyes for laser equipment, substances of medical and veterinary preparations, chemical additives to polymer materials, lime-formation inhibitors, antimicrobial additives to lubricants and agricultural chemicals.
